Autopista

After a long time we arrived Guadalajara. Juli had long time problems with her foot, so we can’t cycle. We stayed a couple of days in small villages along the ‘Autopista’. After we get ready on the road an infect stops us again! (caused by food?). Nothing went anymore. We cycled along the main road so it was not always possible to leave them when we want. There is the ‘libre’ the free road and the ‘Autopista – cuota’ the payed one. The ’15 libre’ is one of the dangerous roads in Mexico. Curvaceous, narrow and a lots of traffic caused by trucks to safe money. The ‘Autopista’ is silent, has a nice shoulder and is more flat, so much better for cycling. Maybe not that scenic. Cycling is officially forbidden, but we’re in Mexico , so nobody cares. Every 70km we reached a small town for a hotel, or getting groceries.
Guatalajara is on 1500m elevation so the landscape is more hilly and surrounded by volcanoes. Lots of farmland with papayas, sugar cane and here in the state of Jalisco the famous Agave, used for the Tequila. With our health problem we hitchhiked the last kilometers. Our great driver Arduro took a detour to showed us the town Tequila, the heard for distilleries and the pride of Mexico.
So we came to Guatalajara and met finally Elis. We were very peeved from the last weeks with all this ‘shi*t’ happens so it was a great gesture from her to pick us up! In the second biggest city of Mexico we took a rest and enjoyed the infrastructure.
For us it was a small “German island” with German stew and original Alnatura Backerbsen! THANK YOU!
