Because of sickness we’re traveling very slowely along the coast. At the end we took a motel room after Santa Barbara, in Carpinteria, so we got deep holes in the money pocket, :-). But with all the rain we got it was not to bad to stay in a dry bed instead of a wet tent. Unfortunately we seen all the california dream beaches in Santa Barbara in the rain. So no volley,- or baywatch girls, :-).
On the way we passed the college town San Louis Obispo where also the HTC Tour the France cycling team was located. Also Pismo beach on which it’s allowed to drive your own truck or quad. What means for us: Get out of here! Nothing for us.
We enjoy the special American advent season. We get adjust to the Christmas trees between the palms and the cheap inflatable snow mens shown in the front gardens. For us – this is really special!
From Santa Barbara itself which is also called the “America Rivera” we seen not that much. It was to rainy. Only on my way back during our vacation I got some impressions from this nice ‘old’ mexican style city. The aera is one of the expensive ones in the U.S. The hike & bikes sites are now $10/night (inclusive the greedy racoon’s) and even the $tores are not ONE Doller stores anymore.
In the countryside you find avocado trees everywhere on plantations. Sadly the fruits are not ripe, :-(. At the end a not to bad place to stay for a while, specially if you watch the weather forecast back home in Germany, :-).
