Thanksgiving

California, the land of the dreams. If you have money. Everything costs money – specially on the West coast. If you can’t stay on the “Hike and Bike” site the rangers have no problem to grab $35 for a night – sometimes without showers. Not every State Park offer this special sites for about $5..$7 per night per person on which you can stay for one or sometimes two nights. Nevertheless a nice constitution.

Regardless the coastline is an eye opener…

So we cycled through the pumpkin city Half Moon Bay, the surfer paradise Santa Cruz, Monterey, the famous coast line in Big Sur and Morro Bay. Lots of elevation meters with also a couple of rainy days. For me on my trip very unusual.

Camping in the woods is not possible. Its ‘private property’ ether State Park. And if you try to stay on somebodies property and if its only for a rest you get a determinately hint to leave. To hide a tent is also not possible. So you have to go to the hike and bikes sites on which you have to fight against the raccoons. A real plaque. These bastards grab your bread directly in front of you. They like instant oatmeal, pancakes (with nutella), avocados and even bread. “Well feed by the cyclists” – so a ranger told us during he repair finaly a food locker. We took again the good old Alaska/Yukon “hangUpTheFood” method. These guys are also some kind of bears… so why not, :-).

But we seen also nice animals, the elephant seals which are at this time of the year located near San Simeon for pairing.

And from time to time you meet very nice people. Maybe only on Thanksgiving, :-). But we get a free lunch from the veterans. Traditionally it was turkey, smashed potato’s with green beans and as a desert pumpkin,- or apple pie. Later on we got an invitation to stay for diner and overnight at a nice house directly by the beach. The family served, how comes: turkey, smashed potato’s with green beans and as a desert pumpkin,- and apple pie. At this day the Americans even agree.

    Hi Jörg,

schön wieder was von Dir zu lesen, das mit den Rädern ist ja weniger erfreulich. Wir haben heute hier den Wintereinbruch erlebt. Es schneit. Also genießt die Sonne

    Grüße auch an Juli.
