Welcome to the jungle

We reached our last state in Mexico, Chipas. In Palenque we met after a long time again international tourists – the ‘Cancun-tourists’. Mostly they doing a round trip through the south of Mexico. So we also visited the old Maya ruins in the middle of the jungle. The bikes were stored in the hotel and we took a ‘Collectivo’ – a group taxi to the park. Short we left the bus we get surrounded by sellers of everything – nippes. But as long as we passed them we had a quite time within the ruin area. Only about a few percent of the city is unveiled, the rest is still hidden by the jungle. There is no movement needed to sweat, the humidity is getting more and more. For us it means: We’re entering the malaria area. So our mosquito net has the premier. After a long time we camped along the route to Guatemala. By a big laguna with great waterfalls, it looked like in a movie. On the road the small kids calling us ‘gringos’ and they were smiling. But if they were older it was not that friendly meaning anymore. If we’re always welcome? How knows… At the end we reached Frontera Colozial, the border town to Guatemala. On our rest day we took some ‘Lanchas’, small, flat boats with big engines to the old Maya town Yaxchilan. This one layed also in the jungle and is only reachable by boat. Here we saw also lots of howling monkeys, tucans and other colorful birds. So but that’s it in Mexico. But it’s time to load our bikes into the lanchas, cross the river Usumacinta and entering Guatemala!
