Big Cities

Finally we reached Santa Monica, L.A. A couple of mail packages waiting here since weeks. For us it was like Christmas! So we rumbled to Beverly Hills, Hollywood, crossing the famous farmers market and amble on the Sunset Blv. Once you seen it its enough with all the blaze of glory. Here everything is show. Crossing L.A. by bike is a small adventure by itself. As a biker you’re on the lowest level, you’re nothing. The “bike routes” are a joke, randomly signs on the road without any special parts for cyclists. From time to time you can be happy if there is a “bike lanes”. Specially at night its a no fun anymore. You have to follow the main roads because of crossing industrial areas (oil industry, ports), rivers and interstates on bridges. After Long Beach its getting better, it follows the coast line passing by the tourist traps. Here are after all the famous surf beaches. On the weekend the coast highway is cycled by all the small ‘Amstrongs’. As a full loaded biker you’re the star between all this “lizzards”. After a while you get sick with all this superficially small talks. When they passing by they want to know where you started, not waiting for the answer and they speed up… So cycling here means, grab the racing bike and go on the road on special parts (only the nice ones). Should be “fun”. Bikes for all day use… Thats not the way to go. Only in San Francisco… Here it’s only fun sport. Very close to San Diego we got the next ‘shock’. Nothing goes anymore. A motel room was the place to stay for a couple of days. We only want to leave the US. I had enough from all this kind of people. California for me was a big disappointment. So we celebrate Christmas in San Diego not in Mexico. But short before we left the US, we threat ourself and watched “The Hobbit”. Who knows when we’ll get the next 3D cinema. On the second Christmas day we said: BYE BYE USA, Mexico we’re coming!
